FAQ

Here are some answers to our frequently asked questions.

When will Brabeion Academy open?

The school is scheduled to open for the 2026-2027 school year (August 2026).

What grades will be served?

The school plans to serve students from kindergarten through 8th grade.

Are you going to have high school?

Yes. Each year after the initial year we will add one grade. This will culminate in a fully accredited high school in year five (class of 2031).

How do I enroll my child?

As a public charter school, Brabeion Academy will have an open enrollment process, which may include a lottery if interest exceeds available spots. The first step is to sign up on the "Early Interest Sign-Up" form (located here) to be notified of the official enrollment period.

How much does it cost to attend Brabeion Academy?

Nothing. Attendance at Brabeion is 100% free.

Will you have a hot lunch program?

Yes. We anticipate being able to offer a hot lunch program.

Will you provide transportation?

Yes. Once our enrollment lottery is completed, we will identify locations in need of transportation. Each community may have one or two pickup and drop off locations, most likely at a location where adult supervision is available in the event that a parent is not available. More details will be shared in Summer 2026.

Do you have a school uniform?

That is to be determined and a decision will be communicated with families prior to the enrollment lottery. If the Board does not decide to have a school uniform, all students will be required to wear athletic gear daily.

Where is the school located?

That is to be determined, but we anticipate being located near Garrity Road and I-84 in Nampa.

Is it true that each class has 60 students and only 1 teacher?

No. Brabeion uses a highly innovative cohort model where each grade level is broken into cohorts (groups) of up to 30 students. Each cohort is assigned an aide (more like a teacher apprentice) that assists the teacher of record with instruction and other tasks. Your student will never be in a class with sixty other students while at Brabeion.

What is the student to adult ratio in a classroom?

While exact numbers will vary from class to class, your student will never be in a classroom with more than 15 students for every adult (teacher and cohort aide). This 15:1 ratio is exceptional and is superior to many other public, charter and private schools.

How is the school's curriculum different from other schools?

Brabeion Academy uses a unique, content-rich curriculum model. It incorporates the Core Knowledge curriculum for language arts and science and the Hillsdale 1776 Curriculum for social studies, which emphasizes American history and civics. A key focus is on Socratic discussion to promote critical thinking and communication skills. For more information, look at our academics page.

Is Core Knowledge the same thing as Common Core?

No. Core Knowledge is a balanced curriculum and is not in anyway associated with Common Core. Brabeion Academy doesn't participate in Common Core.

What about the arts? Are there music or art classes?

Yes. In addition to daily physical education, elementary students will also have art & music everyday for thirty minutes. Secondary students may choose to take art & music as an elective.

What about foreign languages?

All Brabeion students, starting in 7th grade, are required to take two years of Spanish prior to graduation. While a student may choose to take another foreign language through IDLA or another platform, they will still be required to take Spanish, unless they can demonstrate proficiency.

Do all students participate in sports?

Yes. Physical education is a required part of the daily curriculum for all students. Starting in Grade 7 all students are required to participate in at least one school sponsored sport.

How is technology used in the classroom?

The school plans to utilize technology to aid in a mastery-based learning model and to develop critical thinking skills. This approach may include using technology to personalize instruction and allow students to progress at their own pace. To learn more, visit our technology page.

Will you offer special education services?

Yes. We will offer special education services to the extent we are able. Parents interested special education services for the children are encouraged to reach out to the Special Education Director who will be hired in Summer 2026.

Do you have a Code of Ethics

Yes. All members of the Brabeion community will be required to sign a Code of Ethics form.

What is required of parents?

Most charter schools require parents to participate in a certain number of volunteer hours, but at Brabeion we don't have any requirements for volunteering. Instead we require parents to take a short training course once per semester to learn more about the Brabeion philosophy and help them improve in their role as their child's most important educator.
